What is Plex?

Plex is currently a well-received multimedia center. It also provides convenient multimedia streaming services. You only need to install Plex Media Server on the NAS to transfer movies or music from our NAS to your phone or tablet or Watch on TV.
Plex can play almost any media file. In terms of music, Plex supports MP3, M4A, FLAC, WMA and more while support for videos include but is not limited to MP4, MKV, HEVC, AVI, MOV and DIVX. Plex can also display JPG, PNG, RAW and TBN images.
After installing Plex Media Server to a NAS, a multimedia database can be created. The corresponding database starts scanning and indexing all media files inside the NAS, automatically adding thumbnails and video information. This intuitively organizes files in your Plex library makes them ready to play back.
Plex also supports videos from content providers like YouTube and Vimeo. In addition, plugins such as Plex Online enable support for channels like Netflix, Hulu and CNN.

Plex Supports a Wide Range of Devices

Plex supports a wide range of multimedia players, including, but not limited to Apple TV, Android TV, Chromecast, Fire TV, and Roku devices. It also supports multimedia playback software for most computing platforms, including Android, iOS, Windows, macOS, PlayStation, Xbox One, and various smart TVs. Plex Media Server makes your ASUSTOR NAS a powerful multimedia server. Plex can be used with other platforms of players or streaming devices. As long as you are connected to the Internet, log in to your Plex account or use the link server feature provided in Plex. You can use your TV, PC, and any mobile device to stream videos, music, and photos stored on your ASUSTOR NAS, and enjoy high-quality multimedia services anytime, anywhere.

Smooth Playback with Automatic Transcoding

Video incompatibility is a common problem when playing videos. Plex automatically transcodes and converts videos, making playback easier and more seamless than ever.
ASUSTOR NAS devices inherit ASUS motherboard quality and have been repeatedly positively reviewed by well-known reviewers. ASUSTOR NAS devices provide both performance and quality and the powerful Intel CPU is especially suitable for video playback or transcoding on Plex Media Server. When you use different devices to access videos, or if you encounter format incompatibilities, Plex automatically converts files to playable formats, making playback easier and more convenient.
In addition to conversion capabilities, some NAS devices equipped with Intel processors have built-in graphics processors, which assist Plex to make transcoding faster than CPU transcoding*. A Plex Pass account is required to enable Plex Media Server's hardware accelerated transcoding.

* Please enable Media Mode in ADM Settings to enable Intel QSV hardware transcoding for Lockerstor Gen2, Flashstor and AS54 NAS devices.
